Catholics Returning Home Programme

The Catholics Returning Home Programme was written and developed by Sally Mews over the past ten years. Sally, a wife, mother, tax consultant by profession and herself a returning Catholic has a heart to help other Catholics rediscover the riches of the Catholic tradition, especially the sacraments, and become active in their faith.

Sally MewsSally has trialled and modified this programme in her own and many other parishes over ten years and now spends much of her time introducing her programme to other dioceses throughout the USA.

In August 2002, Sally trained Jan Heath and Kathy Robbie from Petrie parish in Brisbane and gave them her blessing to promote and introduce this program throughout Australia and the Oceania region. Jan and Kathy are available to assist parishes in conducting this proven programme and in training team members.

"Come to me all you who are weary and find life burdensome and I will refresh you"

Catholics Returning Home provides a positive context for inactive Catholics to hear this personal call. Coming home to this personal relationship with God through the Church is a challenging step for most people who have been inactive for any period of years.

Essentially, this programme provides a welcoming space for Catholics who have not been connected to a faith community where:

  • their stories of pain and hurt can be told
  • they can be helped to feel comfortable participating in the worshipping community
  • their concerns and questions can be met or directed to the appropriate people
  • they feel accepted.

"In the name of Jesus, the Good Shepherd, I wish to make an appeal - an appeal to Catholics throughout the world…especially to those who for one reason or another are separated from the practice of their faith. Christ is seeking you out and inviting you back to the community of faith."
Pope John Paul II: Homily Jan 27, 1999.
